Marisol Vazquez wins HISD’s first National Center for Women and Information Technology Award

Marisol Vazquez, a senior at Eastwood Academy, was recognized by the National Center for Women and Information Technology. The awards event is scheduled for February 27, at Rice University. The award acknowledges the computing aspirations of young women, introduces them to leadership opportunities in the field, and generates visibility for women’s participation in computing-related pursuits. Award-winners were selected for outstanding aptitude and interest in computing and their desire to pursue computing-related studies. Ms. Vazquez’s award represents the first time an HISD student will be recipient of this prestigious award. She is one of ten young women in the greater Houston area who will receive the award. Ms. Vazquez, who is ranked #1 in her graduating class at Eastwood Academy, plans a career in computer science and is currently undecided about which university she will attend.
